Myrna Cunningham is the first Miskitu woman to study at a university. In 1973, she received a degree in medicine and returned to her home region in the isolated northeast of Nicaragua, where she was born in a small village surrounded by lush forest. Working as a surgeon, she served in more than one hundred remote villages.

The Ecology Crossroads Cooperative Foundation is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Kentucky under ID 0329183 as a nonprofit corporation established on April 12, 1994, is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-governmental organization (NGO) under US Tax ID (EIN) number 61-1259384 and exists to fulfill the charitable purposes further set forth in its Certificate of Authority and Restated Articles of Incorporation.

The Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative is a capacity building program in environmental economics focusing on research, policy interaction, and academic programs. IM Defensoras

La Iniciativa Mesoamericana de Mujeres Defensoras de Derechos Humanos (IM-Defensoras) inició su trabajo en 2010 con el fin de dar una respuesta integral y regional al aumento de la violencia contra las defensoras de derechos humanos en Mesoamérica.

Actualmente, la IM-Defensoras busca fortalecer y vincular a defensoras que participan en distintas organizaciones y movimientos sociales para fortalecer redes de protección y solidaridad entre ellas y aumentar la visibilidad, el reconocimiento y el impacto de su trabajo por los derechos humanos.

Prilaka

Prilaka é um movimento social em defesa dos direitos das comunidades indígenas na Nicarágua, principalmente o direito à autodeterminação, com presença ativa nas comunidades indígenas da costa norte caribenha da Nicarágua, ancestralmente conhecida como Muskitia ou Toguzgalpa. Nasceu dos esforços comunitários para se organizar em nível de base para defender os direitos coletivos e territoriais diante das invasões dos colonos e da negação de justiça pelo Estado nicaraguense, e para proteger os direitos coletivos consagrados na Constituição da Nicarágua.

The Centre for the Indigenous Peoples’ Autonomy and Development (CADPI) is a social organisation dedicated to research and studying of issues related with the indigenous peoples in Nicaragua, regional in Central America and Latin America and on a global level.
