Tenedor, es quien ejerce la tenencia de una cosa mueble o inmueble, no como dueño, sino en lugar, o a nombre del dueño. En general, se denomina como tenedor, a todo el que tiene una cosa reconociendo domino ajeno. Ejemplo: el secuestre, el usufructuario, el arrendatario y el usuario son tenedores de la tierra, de un bien raíz o de un inmueble.
