Subject to certain conditions, the Director of the Department of Agriculture is authorized to make agriculture crop loans in accordance with this Chapter. Section 2 specifies the purposes for which an agricultural loan may be granted. Each loan shall be made upon basis of a written loan agreement signed by the borrower and the Matai controlling the family land if family land is involved.
The Act provides with respect to the granting of loans for the cultivation and management of land. No person who is owner of lands of a gross agricultural value exceeding two thousand five hundred dollars shall be eligible for a loan by the Government under this Act, provided that the Minister may from time to time increase the limit to any amount not exceeding five thousand dollars.
This Act allows owners or occupiers of land for cultivation to pledge crops growing on the land and other produce originating from the land as security for agricultural loans. The Act defines the effect of the pledge and requires contracts to be recorded with the Record Office.
