This brochure highlights the objectives and key information of the FAO project entitled “One million cisterns for the Sahel”. It aims to illustrate the project activities’ expected positive impacts in terms of food security, agricultural activities and nutrition among beneficiairies.
In this article, we study the impact of both secure individual and mixed allocation of plots of land on the farming household propensity to invest in land as well as to improve the productivity of the soil. For that purpose, we resort to the World Bank LSMS-ISA database established in 2014 from a representative sample at the national level of 10,800 farming households in Burkina Faso.
Why this study?
Recent years have witnessed an increase in violent conflicts involving pastoralists in parts of West Africa and the Sahel. They often take the form of clashes between herders and farmers, impacting human, national and regional security.
