Land Portal Receives Support from GIZ to Scale up Work on Information Management & Dissemination | Land Portal

The Land Portal Foundation is pleased to announce financial support by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to scale up work on information management and dissemination.

In particular, GIZ support will go towards expanding existing and creating new thematic portfolios on the Land Portal.

In early 2018, Land Portal launched a portfolio on Land & Corruption in collaboration with Transparency International (TI). With the support of GIZ, the Land Portal will expand on its work with TI and other partners to update and refine this portfolio to not only showcase the latest news articles and publications related to land and corruption issues, but also to provide an overview of the different tools and proven best practices to address these issues.

In post-conflict settings, the social and spatial repercussions of violence, dislocation, destruction of property, battlefield victory and loss, and food insecurity, together with the breakdown of administrative, enforcement, and other property-related institutions and norms, significantly alter relationships between peopls, land uses, production systems, and population patterns. The scale of the problem is staggering, with approximately 68.5 million currently forcibly displaced worldwide.

In response, the Land Portal will establish a thematic portfolio on Land in Post-Conflict Settings to highlight the data and information that exists on this issue.  This portfolio will be created based upon consultation with stakeholders. It will build upon th Land Portal’s current “Land Conflicts” thematic portfolio.

Finally, the Land Portal will establish a thematic portfolio on Forest Landscape Restoration, which will focus on the connections between forest landscape restoration and land governance. It will highlight the tension between forest landscape restoration and human settlements and emerging phenomena such as “green grabbing.” This portfolio will also be created in consultation with key stakeholder groups, and will take into consideration the existing porftolio on Forest Tenure.

This work will take place in 2019. If you are a stakeholder organization working on any of these thematic topics, we would appreciate your input on our these thematic portfolios. Please contact us and let us know how you can help.
