Namati: Innovations in Legal Empowerment

Namati is an international organization that tests the potential of legal empowerment through innovative interventions and research. Through our work, we seek a better understanding of the impacts of legal empowerment and the most effective mechanisms for achieving them.

Dear Friends,

Something special happened in Sierra Leone last month. Twenty-one dynamo legal empowerment advocates from nine countries came together to compare notes about the struggle for environmental justice.

On Wednesday, April 4th, all of us will have the chance to find out what they learned from each other. Join the global webinar to hear the outcomes of the environmental justice learning exchange.

In the webinar, participants will explore questions like: How to get dysfunctional regulatory institutions to enforce environmental law? How to win concrete remedies against powerful corporations? What difference can women paralegals make?

These gatherings among advocates from across our community are rare and precious. Participants spent time with paralegals and communities pursuing environmental justice in Sierra Leone. They reflected together on those experiences and on the ones from their home countries.

We have found that—despite the differences in social and legal context—we have so much to learn from each other.

We are thrilled to continue that learning with you next week.

In solidarity,

Michael, Maya, Daniel, Sonkita, Tommy, Mablu, Hassan, Fatmata, Manju, Abby, Marlon, Kanchi, Bharat, Santosh, Vivek and the entire team supporting the Global Legal Empowerment Network.
