Aumentam de forma perigosa os casos de "açambarcamento de terras", em Uganda, denuncia um Relatório divulgado na segunda-feira, 17 de maio, pelo "Denis Hurley Peace Institute" (Dhpi), o centro da Igreja Católica Sul-Africana para a promoção da reconciliação e paz.

The government has reclaimed the Naguru-Nakawa land after 10 years.
The land had been given to Opec Prime Properties, an investor, to construct a satellite city.
Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the State minister for Housing and Urban Development, said the land has been earmarked for the construction of a specialised medical centre.

Early this year the world commemorated the International Day of Forests, with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) joining Uganda to reiterate their commitment to restoring forests and degraded lands, as well as calling for action to reduce deforestation.

A mineral water company Hema Beverages has run to court in a case in which it seeks to recover Shs216m from a real estate cum land seller.

Hema Beverages claims it was defrauded in a land deal after it later discovered that the land they had paid for had already been sold.

Gov’t reconsiders compulsory land acquisition

Cabinet has started considering fresh amendments to the different laws relating to land management. The State Minister for Urban Development, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, says there are plans to amend the Land Act to allow for compulsory land acquisition to eliminate one of the main bottlenecks to kickstarting large infrastructure projects.
