The Annual Country Reviews reflect upon current land relations in the Mekong Region, and has been
produced for researchers, practitioners and policy advocates operating in the field. Specialists have been
selected from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam to briefly answer the following two
questions:

Recent studies assessing agricultural policies, including the EU’s Agri-Environment Scheme, have shown that these have been successful in attaining some environmental goals. In Finland, however, the economic situation of farms has dramatically fallen and hence, the actions do not result in social acceptability.
Cameroon’s current land law appears to have two conflicting objectives: to attract investors through large-scale land concessions while simultaneously protecting biodiversity, defending local people’s rights and promoting rural development. But the legislation governing large-scale land-based investments is outdated and sometimes incoherent.
