Quantification of landscape pattern is of primary interest in landscape ecological studies. For quantification purposes, a large number of landscape metrics have been developed, with definitions based on measurable patch attributes. Calculation of these metrics is commonly conducted on wall-to-wall maps, whereas a new interest is to use sample data.
This study is a contribution to a model intercomparison experiment initiated during a workshop at the 2013 IAHS conference in Göteborg, Sweden. We present discharge simulations with the conceptual precipitation–runoff model COSERO in 11 basins located under different climates in Europe, Africa and Australia.
The robustness of the physically-based, semi-distributed hydrological model ECOMAG with respect to changing (climatic or land-use) conditions was evaluated for two basins, considered within the modelling workshop held in the frame of the 2013 IAHS conference in Göteborg, Sweden.
Testing hydrological models under changing conditions is essential to evaluate their ability to cope with changing catchments and their suitability for impact studies.

In the early 1970’s, about 80 ha of rich fen, meadows and wet forest on the margins of the large and pristine raised bog ‘Komosse’ in Southern Sweden were drained by ditches to promote spruce (Picea abies) growth and forestry production. Draining had a dramatic impact on forest production on the nutrient-rich peaty soils downhill from the ditches.
This document summarizes the latest global and regional policy developments related to forests. It describes decisions resulting from international and intergovernmental processes and identifies areas where these decisions may have an impact on the forest sector in the COFFI and EFC region.
