    The aim of research was to study the advanced reclamation techniques to deal with the irrigated land degradation (the rise of the groundwater, resalting, dehumification, etc.). Research was undertaken in some farms in the dry steppe zone of Saratov Trans–Volga region. The object of research was degrated (hydrogenic, solonized, saline, fractured) irrigated dark chestnut soils. The prediction of water–salt regimes on the basis of mathematical modeling of moisture and salt transfer in soils of aeration zone was carried out.

    The experience of space images use for creation of land use map for the terriotory of the Svetloyar irrigation system and neighboring households is considered. The investigation territory is located in the north-west area on the right bank part of Kaspian lowland (Volgograd region). The land use map reflects the actual conditions of the object and contains the information about the fields under different crops and mixed-age laylands.

    One of the goals of a sustainable environment adopted in the United Nations General Assembly resolution (September 25, 2015) was «to restore degraded lands and strive to achieve a world neutral to land degradation». The problem was identified at the international and European level, but it is also a very pressing problem in Latvia. With regard to the risks of land degradation and their prevention in Latvia, the Law «On Land Management» came into force on January 1, 2015.

    The research of information support of the system of cadastral estimation of the territory of settlements of Ukraine is carried out. It is proved that the cadastral valuation should be carried out using generalized characteristics of the cadastral quarters of the settlement. This approach allows not only to reduce the cost of creating a cadastral valuation system, but also differentiates it depending on the functional purpose of the territory.

    The most important international a world-level document defining the policy of protecting land and soil is the UN Convention «On combating desertification/land degradation in countries experiencing drought and/or desertification». Latvia acceded to this Convention in 2002, undertaking to implement it requirements. With the introduction of the Convention, it is necessary to develop a national action program for restriction of land degradation, as well as develop new legislation and a long-term policy.
