    Sustainable management of limited land and water resources is urgently needed to meet the increasing demand for food and to protect the environment. Land suitability analysis is a prerequisite in assessing and proposing sustainable land use alternatives for an area. Soil data are usually available at different levels of detail and stored in various forms, usually soil maps and/or soil observations. Soil data interpretation methods control the reliability of land suitability evaluation results.

Addressing these challenges requires a combination of good science, integrated research-for-development approaches, and effective partnerships.     La recaudación de los derechos de agua y del impuesto predial son las fuentes de contribución más importantes en las finanzas municipales, pero la mayoría de municipios oaxaqueños se organizan por usos y costumbres y en esta forma de organización no se contempla el pago del agua y en general de otros servicios públicos. Por otro lado, los alcaldes de estos municipios saben que cualquier intento por cobrar este servicio a su costo de producción, generará descontento social y posibles movilizaciones, toma de palacios municipales y la salida de quien impulsó dichas medidas.

    Urban sprawl has become a remarkable characteristic of urban development worldwide in the last decades. Urban sprawl refers to the extent of urbanization, which is a global phenomenon mainly driven by population growth and large scale migration. In developing countries like Iran, urban sprawl is taking its toll on the natural resources at an alarming pace. The purpose of this paper is to study urban growth and effective factors on them in the city of Urmia, Iran. We used quantitive data of the study area from the period between 1989 and 2007, and population censuses of Urmia.
