Reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD ) should focus on places where such emissions occur. Protected Areas (PAs) are, in theory, protected and hence, should have no emissions associated with land use/land cover change. In practice rotection is incomplete. Can PAs be included in REDD schemes? Can 'paper parks' be included that exist on paper rather than in reality? How concrete should threats be before we call carbon (C) protection 'additional'?

This paper reviews the effectiveness of the legal and institutional frameworks for promoting and regulating biofuel development in Indonesia. It provides an overview of the development of the oil palm biodiesel sector since 2006, following the implementation of dedicated biofuel policies and regulations. The paper examines production targets and evaluates their implementation. It also discusses possible reasons for the limited realisation of biofuel targets and explores the unintended consequences of legislation.

The typical practice by smallholder teak growers of letting trees grow without management input has resulted in poor quality plantations. Various questions arise when farmers start to better manage their teak plantations. This book provides practical guidance in addressing these questions by explaining in detail the techniques of parent tree selection, seed preparation, seedling production, planting, fertilising, thinning, pruning, controlling pest and disease and harvesting. To be more easily understood, the descriptions are complemented by illustrations, photographs or tables.
