Land Use Policy Volume 99
Publication évaluée par des pairsdécembre, 2020États-Unis d'AmériqueFor decades, many cities have introduced densification policy objectives to stop urban sprawl or to promote efficient use of natural resources. In the urban housing sector, however, densification projects often intensify social challenges. Land Use Policy Volume 99
Publication évaluée par des pairsdécembre, 2020NorvègeWhile strengthening women’s land rights is increasingly on national and international agendas, there is little consensus on how to understand women’s tenure security. Analyses of women’s land rights often use very different definitions of land rights, from formal ownership to women’s management of plots allocated to them by their husbands. This paper identifies aspects of women’s tenure that should be included in indicators. It then provides a conceptual framework to identify the various dimensions of women’s land tenure security and the myriad factors that may influence it.

Land Use Policy Volume 99
Publication évaluée par des pairsdécembre, 2020Colombie, Amérique du Sud, Amérique centraleMuch of the research on urbanization has focused on how rural populations move to cities for work opportunities. This paper takes a different perspective on the relations between rural populations and urbanization. Therefore, urbanization takes place in the areas of residence of the rural populations; these people do not migrate to the city but, rather, the city migrates to them.

Land Use Policy Volume 95
Publication évaluée par des pairsjuin, 2020Chine, Fédération de Russie, États-Unis d'AmériqueThe dilemma between preserving farmland and urbanization has attracted many policymakers’ attention. One sound solution that has been practiced in several developed countries is the “transfer of development rights” (TDR). This study examines a specific TDR program in China—the Chongqing Land Quotas Trading program. We use a synthetic control method on the 2001–2014 statistics of 57 prefectures to quantitatively assess the program’s effect on farmland preservation and economic growth.
