This report summarizes the results of the North Dakota Land Valuation Model. This model is used annually to estimate average land values by county, based on the value of production produced on that land. The county land values developed from this procedure form the basis for the 2001 valuation of agricultural land for assessment of real estate taxes. The average all land value from this analysis is multiplied by the total acres of agricultural land on the county abstract to determine each county's total agricultural land value.

Returns to these investments are calculated for the nation as a whole and for three economic zones in the west, central, and coastal regions of the country.

Arid shrub-lands in Syria and elsewhere in West Asia and North Africa are widely thought degraded. Characteristic of these areas is a preponderance of unpalatable shrubs or a lack of overall ground cover with a rise in the associated risks of soil erosion. Migrating pastoralists have been the scapegoats for this condition of the range. State steppe interventions of the last forty years have reflected this with programs to supplant customary systems with structures and institutions promoting western grazing systems and technologies.
