    In Armenia, the forestry sector and forest restoration policy development and decision making in natural resources management processes have been shaped as a result of women’s historical every day practices—which are also often drivers of deforestation and degradation—and yet women’s direct participation in these matters is frequently neglected. Forests in Armenia are state property and the management system is top-down, meaning that decisions are made at the government level and passed down through a hierarchy of power.

    This report summarizes the experiences of 19 companies from across the region. Each of the case studies highlights the key corporate governance changes made and the positive impacts that resulted, as reported by the company. The companies represent various countries, sectors, types, and sizes. All of the companies featured are former IFC Advisory Services clients. Some are IFC Investment clients as well. IFC conducted an in-depth corporate governance assessment for each of these companies using IFC’s Corporate Governance Methodology.

Our country, having the favorable climatic conditions for viticulture, has an important role among the viticulture farming countries of the World. The objective of this study is to determine potential growing areas of grape in Turkey by using Geographic Information Systems techniques based on topographic and climatic factors. It is important to efficiently use of our limited arable lands from the agricultural point of view.

    Cooperation between Bulgaria and FAO started in 1967 and has continued to grow, with Bulgaria providing sustained support to the achievement of FAO’s Strategic Objectives. In recent years, their partnership has focused on supporting small family farms and giving greater recognition to their role in ensuring the country’s food supply. Their collaboration is now focusing on the key role of academia and research institutes in achieving food security and nutrition.

    Qatar joined FAO in 1971. Over the years, FAO assistance has aimed to improve the country’s management and conservation of natural resources, including technological and institutional development to enable sustainable increases in agricultural and fisheries productivity.     The partnership between Kazakhstan and FAO has been constantly evolving since the country became a member of the Organization in 1997. Kazakhstan has recently increased its emphasis on investments in agriculture, forestry and rural development, and aims to modernize the sector while transitioning to a green economy. FAO technical assistance has focused on the sustainable intensification of agricultural production, promoting conservation agriculture, organic farming and sustainable natural resource management, and featuring institutional development and capacity building.

    Israel became an FAO member in 1949, and has provided highly valuable expertise to FAO and its member countries. In addition to offering technical assistance to FAO projects on capacity development for pest and pesticide management, Israel’s agency for International Development regularly holds technical training sessions in many areas of agriculture and development. These are circulated to FAO stakeholders in developing countries, several of whom have participated in and benefited from the training.

    The partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO has been evolving since the country joined the Organization in 2001, and it was recently strengthened with the opening of a Representation in 2014 and the signing of a Host Country Agreement. Delivered through national as well as regional projects, technical assistance has covered a wide range of areas, including diversification of cropping systems, livestock production and disease control, locust control activities and increased fisheries production.
