Fiji ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women in August, 1995. The initial report was submitted in 2000 and the Fiji delegation appeared before the UN CEDAW Committee of Experts for the constructive dialogue in 2002. Fiji has not submitted any report since. Therefore this document is the State combined 2nd, 3rd and 4th Periodic report and covers the period January 2003 to June 2008.

Since 1997, the agricultural leases on Native land, issued under the 1976 Agricultural and Landlord Tenants Act (ALTA), began to expire. The sugar industry is the main commodity export earner for Fiji, directly contributing about 22% of the national GDP and supporting over 25% of the country's active labor force. Fiji exports 80% of its sugar production, earning on average of $250-300 million in foreign exchange annually.

This report details some species of fish considered appropriate for stocking the Sepik/Ramu Rivers. Fishes thought suitable for introduction have been divided into three categories: Category A (species whose introduction is recommended); Category B (species that are thought to be of particular interest which are presently being evaluated in detail) ; and, Category C (interesting species with longer-term potential). Only category A species are presently recommended.

A capacity development strategy is in place to strengthen the capacities of individuals and organizations in sustainable land management and restoration, and to support the establishment of an enabling policy and legal environment at local, national, and regional level to increase the impact and ensure sustainability of activities carried out under Action Against Desertification.
