In Italy, the structure of farm has always shown remarkable elements of weakness. Among these, the small dimension, in terms of arable land, has represented one of the most difficult to resolve. The absence of a legislation that could favour jointness of the property have remarkably reduced the market of the land. In this scenario, a new law n. 203/1982 was lunched. Now farmers are considering rent land a possible strategy to increase hectares. The object of this paper is to analyse the situation of land contract in Campania Region.

We used Ricardian framework with heterogeneous land quality to analyse how policies used to support farm incomes, reduce negative agri-environmental externalities and enhance the provision of positive externalities influence land allocation decisions and land prices. Four agri-environmental policy instruments are considered: a uniform area payment, a quality-dependent area payment, a mandatory buffer strip policy and a voluntary buffer strip payment. We also analyse how general tax and monetary policies may affect agricultural land prices.

Seasonal climate forecasting systems have made substantial gains in recent years. Since climate forecasting technologies are quite new, it is difficult to value them by studying the impacts of existing systems. In pursuing the research necessary to develop and refine these technologies it is worthwhile to know if they have any benefit before their implementation. In this manuscript I determine that there is robust pre-implementation evidence that new vegetation index forecasting technologies could provide non-zero benefits in ranchette markets in Arizona.

This paper quantifies the effects of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) on farmland and developed land prices. Results show that the CRP increases farmland and developed land prices by 1.8% and 0.6%, respectively, on national average, with the largest increases in the Mountain, Southern Plains, and Northern Plains.

Section I challenges Schultz's assertions: (1) small farmers are rational; (2) low income countries saddled with traditional agriculture have not the problem of many farmers leaving agriculture for nonfarm jobs; (3) part-time farming can be efficient; (4) economies of scale do not exist in agriculture; and (5) investment in human capital counts much more than institutional changes and is the key to agricultural growth.

Substantial increases in farmland demand in sub-urbanization have had profound effects on agriculture and produced a surge in farmland values. With escalating land values, farmland can take on the characteristics of a speculative asset and farmland owners may be more responsive to the investment value of farmland than the productive value. Speculation has been shown to have a significant impact on the agricultural production decisions of farms, and may encourage farmers to curtail capital investments and prematurely idle productive farmland.

Land has had a crucial role in the rural-nationalist ideology, especially with respect to its scarcity. In this ideology the land itself embodies a symbolic meaning which could be referred to as the "national mother-earth" which must be protected from aliens. This was the reason why the governments of the ECE candidate countries asked and received a period of 7-12 years exemption from EU rules with respect to the free movement of capital for the purpose of purchasing agricultural land.

This paper illustrates the potential negative effects of increasing the scope of plant breeders' rights (PBR) protection, as has been proposed for Europe by leading plant breeding firms. Such a policy could increase the costs for varietal development for breeding companies, particularly if their access to varieties of the market leader is constrained. This is represented as an asymmetrical increase in breeders' cost functions in a simple model of endogenous quality choice under price competition.

Farmers in peri-urban regions face many problems, among which land scarcity is a major one according to literature. However, as indicated by a survey among farmers in the peri-urban region around Brussels, land scarcity is not perceived as a problem by all farmers to the same extent.
