In this paper we develop a dynamic data-consistent way for estimating agricultural land use choices at a disaggregate level (district-level), using more aggregate data (regional-level). The disaggregation procedure requires two steps. The first step consists in specifying and estimating a dynamic model of land use at the regional level. In the second step, we disaggregate outcomes of the aggregate model using maximum entropy (ME). The ME disaggregation procedure is applied to a sample of California data.

The purpose of this paper has been to present quality-adjusted values for land in the United States and nine European countries using price and quantity data for 1990. Disregarding such differences in the quality-adjusted land input would generate biased estimates of the land input and thus of total factor productivity. Land quality adjustments could potentially be enhanced further with additional data on soil characteristics, climate, and other productivity-related characteristics.

Land markets have received a considerable amount of attention in economic literature. Since the treatment of the topic covers various approaches, areas, and questions, it seems desirable to attempt an overview of the results. This paper devises a way in which to present a complete picture of the land market by drawing together the various contributions. The first step is to establish a method by which a market in its entirety can be defined. It is suggested that the application of Oliver Williamson's "Four levels of social analysis" is an appropriate approach to be used in this endeavour.

We conduct a study to examine the effects of local development pressure and other factors on the value of urban-fringe land parcels. Multiple regression spatial models were estimated using parcel- level data from Delaware County, Ohio. The empirical results provide evidence that such factors as man-made and natural features are relevant in determining property values. The econometric findings indicate that local development pressure contributes profoundly to an increase in current land prices.

Using a unique dataset on the characteristics, origin, and destination of households who engaged in intrametropolitan moves in the Columbus, Ohio area, we estimate a hybrid conditional logit choice model of residential location that separately identifies the push/pull influence of local public goods, namely school quality and public safety, from household income and other lifecycle effects.

We estimate a sequential game between farmers and government auditors to determine the effectiveness of the current enforcement policy in deterring noncompliance with the conservation program on highly erodible land. The empirical results indicate that using farm program payments as leverage against noncompliance is insufficient for inducing full producer compliance.

The Environmental Benefits Index (EBI) ranks Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) offers by weighing program costs for enrolling land in CRP against six environmental objectives. This paper uses Monte Carlo simulations to analyze the sensitivity of CRP enrollment outcome to the specification of the EBI. Results indicate that:(a)there is no major shift in average benefits throughout the U.S.

With more and more rural land being converted at the urban fringe, buyer, sellers, planners, appraisers, tax assessors, and others are expected to have an increasing need for information related to the effect of location on rural land values.In econometric land value estimation, misspecification of the variance-covariance matrix results in loss of efficiency, predictive accuracy, and biased inference. The form of the weight matrix is also important.
