The paper highlights that land degradation in India has been approaching a crisis level in spite of repeated emphasis on wasteland development and existence of apex level organisations for that purpose. One reason has been the policy emphasis on ownership and control rather than appropriate management of the land. It is set in the context of i) the 1988 Forest Policy, and ii) the recent amends to the Forest Conservation Act.

This paper develops a disequilibrium model of land prices in the Netherlands. It shows that the behaviour of traded quantities and prices of Dutch land have some resemblance with a disequilibrium land market model developed by Søgaard. An error correction model based on Søgaard’s model generates significant results with GDP and the real interest rate as explanatory variables, but regrettably farm income nor government demand for land generate significant results.

In line with the “Condition of organic farming in Poland. The report 2013- -2014”, issued by the Main Inspectorate of the Agricultural and Food Quality Inspection (www.ijhar-s.gov.pl), production solely under the organic system was carried out, at that time, by 67% and 60% of organic farms, respectively. The remaining share are entities producing under both organic and conventional methods. According to research, held under the Polish FADN, these farms are highly varied in organisational, production and economic terms.

Why has job growth over the past decades been weaker in the Dutch Randstad area than in surrounding regions? In a simultaneous equations analysis, we find that employment adjusts to the regional supply of labour. Net internal migration is predominantly determined by regional housing supply and not by employment growth. Growth of the regional housing stock responds only moderately to changes in the number of people and jobs.

Meerjarige granen, waaronder Thinopyrum intermedium, wortelen dieper en intensiever en houden daardoor bodem, voedingsstoffen en water goed vast. Voor Nederlandse omstandigheden zou de teelt van dergelijke gewassen dan ook kunnen zorgen voor minder water en/of winderosie, minder milieubelasting (minder uitspoeling) en zuiniger gebruik van inputs.

In planning- en beleidsliteratuur wordt grondbeleidsdynamiek en de invloed van (publieke) actoren op grondbeleid bestudeerd. Desalniettemin, is er nog weinig bekend over de strategieën, interacties en beslissingsmechanismen van actoren, of hoe actoren de grondbeleidsdynamiek beïnvloeden. Het doel van deze thesis is om een bijdrage te leveren aan de wetenschappelijke en maatschappelijke kennis op het vlak van besluitvorming bij actoren, de onderliggende mechanismen, en hoe de keuzes van en interacties tussen actoren grondbeleidsdynamiek beïnvloeden.

De winning van delfstoffen uit de oppervlakte, het ontgronden, veroorzaakt een onomkeerbare verandering van het landschap. Naast het winnen van zand (ontzanden) kan het daarbij gaan om klei, grind, mergel en schelpen. Het proces om tot een ontgronding te komen is een langdurig traject waarbij verschillende belangen van ontgronder, gemeente en bewoners tegen elkaar dienen te worden afgewogen.

Biodiversity continues to decline in the face of increasing anthropogenic pressures such as habitat destruction, exploitation, pollution and introduction of alien species. Existing global databases of species’ threat status or population time series are dominated by charismatic species. The collation of datasets with broad taxonomic and biogeographic extents, and that support computation of a range of biodiversity indicators, is necessary to enable better understanding of historical declines and to project – and avert – future declines.
