The Bali Action Plan identified two key areas for the forest sector to contribute significantly to global climate change mitigation. One area concerned approaches and incentives relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD). The second area focused on the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries. REDD+ has become synonymous for a combination of these two areas.

Understanding farmer decisions on land use conversions (LUC) in rural areas has significant importance to understand and predict the patterns of land use changes in China. Many methods have been developed to search for the influencing factors on land use changes at farm household level. However, these methods have difficulty in evaluating the intertwined influences between factors and achieving farmer decision rules on LUC.

Taking Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, China as an example, evaluation index system of urban land intensive use is established from four aspects of land economic benefit, land utilization degree, investment intensity, and sustainable utilization. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the weight of evaluation index in research region. Taking the index numerical value of Hubei Province as the standard value, index value of the research region is evaluated. Combining with the index weight obtained by AHP, urban land intensive use is evaluated by the weighted average.

Characteristics of interest subjects in land circulation market of rural China are introduced, which are land supplier (peasant household) and requester (large household). It is pointed out that due to the poor management capacity and market adaptability, peasant household may rent some or all the contracted land in the form of subcontract if someone is willing to offer a higher rent. The production of biofuels has been supported by many conservationists and environmentalists on the grounds that it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and is a renewable energy substitute for non-renewable fossil fuels, mainly oil. More recently the domestic production of biofuels (and the domestic supply of other forms of alternative energy) have been welcomed by several nations as ways to reduce their oil imports and increase their energy self-sufficiency, as for example, has happened in the United States.
