For decades numerous countries have been witnessing the Street Children phenomenon where millions of children worldwide are subjected to risks Despite the crucial role of intermediate nonresidential interventions using dropin centers in protecting and rehabilitating street children there is a paucity of research addressing the quality of design of these centers and how architecture might influence their operational process Those observations invite investigating dropin centers used in practice from a design perspective and question adapting architectural applications for humanitarian emerg

Contemporary architecture has its roots from the vernacular Every cultural group in the world has its own form of vernacular though the approach may vary from place to place and from people to people Vernacular architecture has many values which are relevant to contemporary architecture today This paper looks at vernacular architecture in Nigeria as practised by two ethnic groups who have varying climatic religious and sociocultural practices The approaches to architecture by these two groups ie the Hausas and Igbos are looked at with the intention of finding positive values in the vernacul

Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2016MexiqueFood flow data provide unique insights into the debates surrounding the sustainability of land based production and consumption at multiple scales. Trade flows disguise the spatial correspondence of production and consumption and make their connection to land difficult. Two key components of this spatial disjuncture are land use displacement and economic regional decoupling. By displacing the environmental impact associated with food production from one region to another, environmental trajectories can falsely appear to be sustainable at a particular site or scale.

Sustainability
Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2018BrésilImportant among global issues is the trilemma of abrupt climate change, food insecurity, and environmental degradation. Despite the increasing use of fossil fuel, about one third of global C emissions come from tropical deforestation and indiscriminate use of agricultural practices. Global food insecurity, affecting one in seven persons, aggravates environmental degradation. The importance of judicious land use and soil sustainability in addressing the trilemma cannot be overemphasized.

Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2018ArgentineThe livestock sector can be a major contributor to the mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Within the sector, beef production produces the largest proportion of the livestock sector’s direct emissions. The objective of this study was to assess the on-farm GHG emissions in semi-arid rangelands in Argentina and to identify the relationship between emissions and current farm management practices. A survey recorded detailed information on farm management and characteristics.

Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2023BrésilSince the dawn of Brazilian trade, extensive cattle farming has predominated. Brazil’s extensive pasture-based system uses pasture plants adapted to climate and soil conditions with limited use of purchased inputs. However, new technologies such as integrated crop and livestock systems have recently been adopted, with government support and public policies that are intended to encourage increased agricultural production in Brazil.

Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2021BrésilThis research examines the relations between forest decrease and legal property security in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The study area encompasses 133,090.4 km2 of the Amazonian biome, belonging to the Brazilian Legal Amazon, located at the arc of deforestation where agriculture and cattle ranching compete with the native vegetation cover. Cadastral monitoring and certification of productive land plots are Brazil’s public policies to implement to tackle these environmental challenges.

Publication évaluée par des pairsjanvier, 2016BrésilUnsustainable farming practices such as shifting cultivation and slash-and-burn agriculture in the humid tropics threaten the preservation of the rainforest and the health of the local and global environment. In weathered soils prone to cohesion in humid tropic due to low Fe and carbon content and the enormous amounts of P that can be adsorbed, sustainable soil use is heavily dependent on the availability and efficient use of nutrients.
