   This paper examines the spatial pattern of food discount stores in Switzerland, where private actors made location decisions without interference from planning regulations until 2016. Using aerial images and a classification scheme with functional and morphological attributes, the study shows that the majority of discount stores were built in peripheral commercial areas or greenfield sites as solitary buildings, indicating a preference for minimal land acquisition costs and car orientation. Some integrated central locations were also chosen.

   Land and land reform cover a great range, both in terms of the geographical and development status of the countries considered, and of the variety of perspectives on the issues. The articles in this issue of Land Reform, Land Resettlement and Cooperatives reflect this breadth in a variety of ways. The articles range geographically from the paper addressing land and agrarian reform in Colombia, by Professor Darío Fajardo, to a consideration of the land reforms currently under way in Scotland, by Douglas Macmillan, Ken Thomson and Bill Slee.

   FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and other development partners are working together with countries to prepare Voluntary Guidelines that will provide practical guidance to states, civil society, the private sector, donors and development specialists on the responsible governance of tenure. By setting out principles and internationally accepted standards for responsible practices, the Voluntary Guidelines will provide a framework and point of reference that stakeholders can use when developing their own policies and actions.

   The present Ordinance enforces the Expropriation Law of 22 April 2009. Article 7 establishes that the competent authority shall decide on the admissibility of expropriation, if no agreement can be reached in expropriation negotiations.    The present Law lays down provisions relating to land expropriation in the Canton of Schwyz. In particular, article 1 establishes that every land owner has the duty to cede to the Canton or local authorities land, buildings and trees if the need arises for the following purposes: the remaking and enlargement of new streets; the remaking of river banks and brooks; for the building of new churches; the exploitation of material used for building of streets; the erection of new water conducts and fountains. The text consists of 15 articles.

    The present Ordinance implements the Land Use Planning and Construction Law of 7 March 1989. Article 3 establishes that the Construction, Environment and Economic Office provides the basis for the ecological planning and building.
