This report discusses improvements of MAGNET in order to improve the analysis of land use change and forestry dynamics. In the standard approach only a difference is made between agricultural land, non-used land that can be potentially used for agriculture, and land that never can be used for agriculture. In the new approach different other land cover types like built - up area and forestry are distinguished.
Het agrarische gebruik heeft gevolgen voor de kwaliteit van de leefomgeving. Schaalvergroting is ook voor veel agrarische bedrijven in FoodValley een toekomststrategie. Een ander deel van de bedrijven is relatief klein, een aanzienlijk deel daarvan heeft geen opvolger. Functieverandering van agrarische bedrijven neemt een hoge vlucht en verandert het aanzien van het landschap. Bovendien ontstaan nieuwe en soms ongewenste soorten van bedrijvigheid in vrijkomende agrarische gebouwen en boerderijen. Ondanks het overwegend intensieve agrarisch gebruik, kent de Vallei ook veel "trage gebieden".
Deze brochure gaat over het Renesse van de toekomst. Over belangrijke uitdagingen die op het gebied afkomen, over het unieke kustlandschap als natuurlijk kapitaal van Renesse en over slim anticiperen op de toekomst waarbij dit natuurlijk kapitaal centraal staat. De gevolgen van zeespiegelstijging voor kust van Renesse zijn naar verwachting beheersbaar bij een geïntensiveerde voortzetting van het huidige zandsuppletiebeleid tot 2050. Wel is het zaak om via de ruimtelijke inrichting Renesse en omgeving bestand te maken tegen meer en grotere weersextremen.
Het hoofddoel van China’s landbouw- en plattelandsbeleid is behoud van voedselzekerheid in eigen land en bijdragen aan de voedselzekerheid in de wereld door duurzaam gebruik van natuurlijke hulpbronnen en verbetering van de landbouwproductiecapaciteit voor de lange termijn. In veel gebieden in China gaat de landbouwproductiecapaciteit op lange termijn echter achteruit door intensieve landbouw en de daarmee gepaard gaande degradatie van de hulpbronnen land en water.
Liquid biofuel from oil crops are broadly promoted globally, among which biofuel from perennial wood species, as well as from bushes and small trees such as jatropha. In China, oil-bearing small trees, which mainly grow on slope land, are applied as so-called bioenergy and oil forests for liquid biofuel production. The national government in China has devised a series of laws and policies to promote bioenergy and oil forest programs. In this study, the focus is on jatropha and camellia programs.

Stichting Behoud Erfgoed Oirschot (SBEO) heeft zich ten doel gesteld om de open en bolle akkercomplexen rond Oirschot te beschermingen in het licht van huidig en toekomstig landgebruik. De rol van de boomteelt is voor SBEO een belangrijk onderdeel van dit vraagstuk omdat deze sector rond Oirschot veel aanwezig is en mogelijk cultuurhistorische waarden kan aantasten door verandering van de openheid en mogelijke afvoer van grond na de oogst van de bomen.
This report is an account of experiences of a Ukraine based company, Phytofuels Investments, operating in the framework of the Pellets for Power project. As one of five project partners, Phytofuels’ tasks included the development of sustainable reed production methods. Two aspects of this endeavor are zoomed in on in this report: reed legislation and engagement with authorities issuing permits on the one hand and engagements with local reed owning communities on the other. Both aspects are strongly interlinked and cover two sets of requirements in the NTA 8080, i.e.
In contrast to their sedentary image, farmers in Central and South Mali are surprisingly mobile. Many have settled in scattered farming hamlets where they are rapidly expanding the areas under agriculture. This study focuses on farmers’ mobility in relation to accessing land in two regions in Mali where farming conditions are very different regarding rainfall, population growth and opportunities for income generation. It is shown that differences in farming conditions in the two regions have shaped the different temporal and spatial dimensions of farmers’ mobility.
