    This technical guide covers the issues associated with the identification and valuation of tenure rights for different purposes, and provides guidance on how to ensure that valuations are undertaken in a fair, reliable and transparent manner that comply with international norms. It explains why valuations are important, where and when they should be used, and by whom. The guide aims to raise the level of awareness of valuation issues and procedures among those involved in land policy and administration and those affected by land tenure decisions.

    The Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) approach, which is still in its nascent stages of development, is rapidly gaining attention as a more appropriate way to restore both degraded forests as well as the surrounding degraded landscape. The great value of this approach is that it integrates forest restoration actions with the desirable objectives of the landscape, and it is undertaken with the full participation of the people who will have a role in the management of the restored areas over the longer term.

    The project “Increase the use of the Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security among CSOs and grassroots organizations” has started in September 2014 thanks to a contribution of the Kingdom of Belgium. Its first phase, ended in December 2015, has involved seven countries: Guatemala, South Africa, Malawi, Myanmar, Niger, Senegal and Nepal.

It covers specific challenges of pastoral tenure that are unique to pastoralism and considers how these different facets of pastoralist tenure (issues of the commons; free, prior and informed consent (FPIC); gender etc.) can be combined in a coherent approach to securing pastoral lands.

    Advanced Database Gateway The FAO Land Cover Classification System software is due to be released in its third version, and with it come four supporting volumes. The third volume is a tutorial for the use of the Advanced Database Gateway which allows users to better interact with the LCCS and adapt it to their needs. The FAO LCCS is applicable to commercial use, national security, environmental protection, natural resource management, climate change mitigation and tracking of greenhouse gas emissions; and creates land classifications that are internationally transparent and comparable.

    The Land Tenure Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access flagship journal of the Climate, Energy and Tenure Division (NRC) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The Land Tenure Journal, launched in early 2010, is a successor to the Land Reform, Land Settlement and Cooperatives, which was published between 1964 and 2009. The Land Tenure Journal is a medium for the dissemination of quality information and diversified views on land and natural resources tenure. It aims to be a leading publication in the areas of land tenure, land policy and land reform.

    The Afghanistan Agriculture Information Portal (AAIP) is a web data dissemination platform for crop production statistics and crop conditions. It manages spatial (satellite images and thematic layers) and non-spatial data (crop, climatic and hydrologic) that national or sub-national institutions generate or collect regarding crop monitoring. It aims to provide this information useful for decision-making by top management, farmers and other stakeholders in a country like Afghanistan where more than 80% of people.

    This booklet presents an overview of the issue of soil management practices in Africa. It briefly presents the 12-Resolution “Abuja Declaration on Fertilizer for the African Green Revolution” adopted in 2006 and contextualizes the 2014 adoption by the 23rd Summit of the African Union of the Malabo Declaration on Accelerated Agricultural Growth and Transformation for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods that reaffirmed that agriculture should remain high on the development agenda of the continent.

    Effective policy and legal advice requires a clear understanding of the gaps and discrepancies in the policies and legislation pertaining to gender and land. This paper introduces a Legal Assessment Tool (LAT) for gender-equitable land tenure, developed under the Gender and Land Rights Database (GLRD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for the purpose of providing prompt, targeted and effective policy and legal advice to countries working towards gender-equitable land tenure.
