Land-use planning is increasingly being recognized as a central part of the formulation and implementation of strategies to reduce deforestation and forest degradation, contributing to both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Conflicting interests and competition over land and resources have been major driving forces of forest conversion, with increasing pressure due to population growth, degradation of lands, economic interests and, not least, the impact of climate change.

Energy access in turn can help to reduce conflict due to specific food security and livelihood benefits, such as the ability to safely cook food and carry out income-generating activities. An in-depth analysis of context-specific conflict drivers is a necessary first step in working towards sustainable peace.

Le 11 mai 2017 a marqué le 5ème anniversaire de l’approbation des Directives volontaires pour une gouvernance responsable des terres, des pêches et des forêts dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire nationale (DV) par le Comité de la sécurité alimentaire mondial (CSA). Les DV ne sont plus simplement des mots dans un document et leurs principes et processus incitent les personnes du monde entier à agir et à changer leur réalité.

La transhumance transfrontalière est trop souvent réduite à une activité génératrice de conflits qu’il est possible de régler très facilement en fermant les frontières. Cette note aux décideurs montre une réalité beaucoup plus complexe. La mobilité pastorale en Afrique de l’Ouest représente un apport économique de plusieurs dizaines de milliards de Fcfa chaque année dans toutes les zones d’accueil. Dans une région troublée sur le plan sécuritaire et confrontée au défi de l’emploi et de la pauvreté, la dimension économique, sociale et politique de la transhumance est importante à préserver.

The Miombo woodland is a vast African dryland forest ecosystem covering close to 2.7 million km2 across southern Africa (Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe).
