   • Those  initiated by farm owners on large estates with minimal state involvement 
   • Projects initiated by farm owners to provide workers with tenure security involving sub division of their property 
   • Projects initiated by farm owners to move workers to new or existing settlements off- farm 
   • Projects initiated by government to develop new settlements respond to the needs of displaced rural people

The review aims to provide a knowledge baseline from which to distil key questions to guide an applied process of research and social dialogue in the Cape Winelands District and beyond

It provides a detailed history of processes and events which continue to shape South Africa's rural hinterland in the contemprary era.

   conducted with workers on and off farm, individual employers, representatives of organised
   agriculture, trade unions, NGOs, worker support organisations, municipal councillors and officials
   together with representatives from provincial government departments. It sets out options for a
   strategy to address farm worker housing and related needs.

   Through collecting data on large-scale land transactions, the Land Matrix increases transparency to foster accountability of investors and other parties involved in large-scale land transactions. The Land Matrix aims to contribute in an innovative and relevant way to the growing movement towards open development - allowing for greater public involvement in critical decisions that affect the lives of land-users around the world.

   The LM Africa Focal Point developed a detailed profile of large-scale land acquisitions in Tanzania.

    What is the future of food in South Africa? What might the food system look like in 2030, in terms of production, processing, distribution and consumption? Many people are asking similar questions and producing vision statements, policies and forecasts to enable anticipation and planning in a volatile system. They are all telling stories about the future – some optimistic, some dire. But these stories tend to be disconnected, narrated past each other to different audiences. The four scenarios contained in this document tell a more connected set of stories.
