Recent studies explored the suitability of using Geographical Information System to support decisional processes in the field of risk assessment & management. In particular, the elaboration of GIS ¿risk-maps¿ has been recognized as functional to two objectives: connecting decision-makers and stakeholders during decisional processes and communicating risk to non-experts audiences. In both cases, the use GIS results in increased transparency, as it gives clear ground and evidences to risk-related decisions.

The aim of this paper is to define the range of objects that may need to be accommodated in the development of a practical cadastral database, to also accommodate 3D spatial units, and permit a range of encodings to coexist. The level of geometric encoding as defined in the ISO19152 LADM provides a framework of categorization of spatial units recorded in a cadastre, whether formal or informal, historic, current or planned. The levels of encoding range from simple “text based” spatial unit to the “topology based” encoding (in both 2D and 3D).

Road collisions are a problem world-wide. Related to the kilometers traveled on public roads agricultural vehicles (AVs) are over-represented in reported numbers of traffic victims. We aim to investigate how agricultural engineering can reduce accidents with AVs involved on public roads. We therefore relate so-called accident factors to the 3 road system components; driver, vehicle and road. We summarize the significance of 10 accident factors and describe possible preventive measures from an engineering perspective.

The southern and central regions of The Netherlands are part of the Northwest- European Delta Metropolis. The demands placed by modern, urban society on the agricultural sector are numerous. Not only are the environment, animal welfare, and food hygiene and quality at stake here, but also must these demands be met in a period of a structural decline in economic yields and under the permanent pressure of a shortage of available land. Intensification and increase of scale, which have characterized European agriculture for a long time, are set to continue in the future.

Fit-for-purpose inspired approaches to land tenure recordation are being developed and implemented mainly in the form of pilot projects in various countries and application contexts. These approaches combine mobile digital technologies and flexible database structures with community based approaches for capturing and managing tenure rights. We discuss 10 such initiatives.
