The young man was scared. The city government had instructed him to count the shacks in the settlement. He arrived smartly dressed carrying a briefcase and clipboard with pen in hand and a list of the shacks. His job was to find any new shacks without the official number painted on the door. But he immediately ran into problems. The local residents confronted him, asking what he was doing. Soon a small crowd had gathered. They took him into the community hall, where a meeting was under way. He explained that the city had sent him, but the local people were suspicious.

In Uganda, agricultural extension has been hotly debated since the implementation of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) program in 2001. Conceived as a demand-driven approach and largely publicly funded with services provided by the private sector, the NAADS program targets the development and use of farmer institutions. It is a key strategy in the government’s poverty-reduction and national development plan.

Sabe-se que o processo de ocupação econômica, pós-1970, foi extremamente prejudicial ao meio ambiente e às populações tradicionais da região Amazônica, persistindo ainda hoje as imensas dificuldades de reprodução das famílias no interior da floresta. Um dos principais desafios na busca de um Desenvolvimento Sustentável é a viabilização do desempenho econômico das unidades produtivas, a partir dos produtos florestais não madeireiros (PFNM), e, conseqüentemente, da reprodução social dessa população.

The set of problems involving land property in Latin America has been the subject of controversy, legislation and political struggle ever since the occupation of its territory by the European colonizers in the post-Mercantilism era. In recent years, however, the need for food and energy production, the need for environmental preservation and the speculative use of land, has aroused a new wave of debate over land acquisition.

Much of São Paulo’s urban expansion is driven by the development of informal settlements on its periphery, which includes the catchment areas that provide important environmental services such as open space and catchments for drinking water reservoirs. In such areas, governance of land, water services and water resources, traditionally administered separately, are in fact interdependent.

Após 30 anos de exílio de sua terra de origem, os Kaxuyana regressaram, e atualmente encontram-se de volta ao rio ‘Kaxuru’, lugar que deu origem ao próprio nome ‘Kaxuyana’, que quer dizer ‘gente do rio Cachorro’, afluente do médio rio Trombetas, situado no oeste do estado do Pará. Os atuais Kaxuyana se consideram descendentes não apenas dos antigos Kaxuyana, mas também de vários outros grupos aparentados. Estes possuíam outras denominações que variavam de acordo com os nomes dos cursos d’água em que habitavam por toda região do médio Trombetas, no estado do Pará.

O foco deste trabalho é a representação dos espaços presentes no romance Terra Sonâmbula (COUTO, 1999). Ele traz à tona a guerra civil em Moçambique (1976-1992), desencadeada por duas facções distintas que lutam por um mesmo fim: a conquista do poder político no país, após a independência colonial. Os espaços a serem abordados sofrem transformações, em meio a essa guerra. Nesse contexto, articularemos uma discussão com base na teoria ecofeminista, por sua pertinência e contribuição ao debate sobre relações de humanos e de não humanos no meio ambiente.
