    As part of the efforts to find sustainable solutions to complex land tenure issues, multi-stakeholder platforms (MSPs) create an inclusive forum where actors can discuss problems and propose solutions to improve governance of tenure and provide better access to natural resources. This publication highlights how MSPs at regional, national and local level demonstrate forward thinking, including innovative practices and approaches to respond to the above mentioned social challenges, for the benefit of all.

    Bangladesh

    The village of Rampur, in the Dinajpur district of

    Bangladesh, was established on public ‘khas’ land in 1953

    by landless farmers. However, in the following decades,

    different groups of local elites claimed the land and tried

    to evict the villagers. Thanks to support from CDA, the

    villagers resisted the harassment and false claims. In 2000

    the court quashed the false claims; in 2001 the village was

    beneficiary to a governmental land distribution scheme;

    The study tried to assess the state of data in India, particularly to track and report two critical land governance indicators viz. women land rights and forest rights, critical to ensure equity and sustainability in terms of public policy. 
    With UN’s SDG, defining similar indicators, study  also attempts in aligning them around SDG indicators. Status of these two parameters were analyzed using nation-wide datasets collecting whole population data, through census of India, Agriculture Census  operations following robust processes and reporting them open access.

    This paper analyzes the state’s Land Governance in terms of the five themes for
    administrators, technicians and professionals working in the land sector as per the gender-framework of FAO’s VGGT along with an additional theme on community perspectives on women land rights, and recommends strategies for moving towards it.
