There is no doubt that the Global Data Revolution has reached the land sector. Government data portals, open access academic journals, community mapping initiatives and other citizen-generated data - there is a palpable positive drive across the world that allows processes such as data collection to be more inclusive and open. Studies dealing with productivity in female(FHH) and male headed households (MHH) find thatFHH appear to be either less, equally, or moreproductive compared to MHH. Lower productivity ofFHH is often explained by insecure access to land, whilethe findings of higher productivity largely remainunexplained. This paper is an attempt to reconcile thesecontrasting findings by constructing a model thataccounts for productivity effects arising from secureland rights and the risk of falling short of income.
