Artificial neural networks (ANN) are nonlinear models widely investigated in hydrology due to their properties of universal approximation and parsimony. Their performance during the training phase is very good, and their ability to generalize can be improved by using regularization methods such as early stopping and cross-validation. In our research, two kinds of generic models are implemented: the feed-forward model and the recurrent model.

We used the process-oriented niche model CLIMEX to estimate the potential global distribution of serrated tussock under projected future climates. Serrated tussock is a drought-tolerant, wind- and human-dispersed grass of South American origin that has invaded pastures in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and South Africa. The likely effect of climate change on its potential global distribution was assessed by applying six climate-change scenarios to a previously developed model.

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) is a mitigation instrument that creates a financial value for the carbon stored in standing forests. The purpose of REDD+ is to provide incentives for developing countries to mitigate forest-related emissions and to foster conservation, sustainable management of forests and the enhancement of forest carbon stocks.

In 2015 the global community committed itself to an ambitious programme of reform. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the resolutions of the Paris climate conference require that great efforts are made – including those of a financial nature. Many states will have to ensure that untapped or barely used sources of income are developed. Sub-national units such as provinces, departments, districts, and cities will play an increasing role in the mobilisation of public revenues.

These proceedings reflect the broad range of disciplines, institutions and geographical regions represented at the workshop. This is one of the seven sector analyses (Meat and Dairy; Fruit and vegetables; Cereals; Wine; Diversification, Fishery and Aquaculture, and Forestry) that have been prepared since spring 2011 for the agricultural authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina at state, entity and Brčko District level. The sector analyses are inputs to the design of measures to be financed under the European Union (EU) Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance for Rural Development (IPARD), once available, as well as for the design of the country’s policies interventions in general.
