On a global scale, Sudan perhaps ranks first in terms of pastoralists population size. About
66 per cent of Sudan is arid land, which is mainly pastoralists’ habitat. Pastoralism in the
Sudan involves about 20 per cent of the population and accounts for almost 40 per cent of
livestock wealth [Markakis, 1998: 41]. The livestock sector plays an important role in the

قدم هذا التقرير مراجعة قانونية " لمشروع القانون والذى يقوم باقتراح بعض الأحكام بشأن الممتلكات المنقولة للدولة، وذلك بموجب القانون رقم 4 لسنة 7911 (مشروع القانون)"، الذي نشرته وزارة العدل بالحكومة الليبية في مارس 2013م . ولا يعد هذا التقرير مقتصراً على مناقشة مشروع القانون المعنىّ، إذ يسلّط الضوء على القضايا الرئيسة المختصة بأي استرجاع، والذى من شأن القانون أن يعالجه. ويعتمد مشروع القانون في معالجته على أسس العدالة الاجتماعية وأفضل الممارسات الدولية المتعلقة باسترجاع الممتلكات، بما في ذلك التعويض.

This report assesses the legislation of Sudan relating to land tenure and administration (see the list in the Annex to this report) against the provisions of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (the VGGT). The assessment is structured along a set of indicators from the VGGT that were considered most relevant for the legal framework on governance of land tenure in Sudan.

To mitigate the disastrous consequences of COVID-19, IFAD has committed itself
to supporting affected rural people in many countries, including Sudan, through the IFAD-established Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF). Additional support
of US$747,650, requested by the Government of Sudan to help 5,000 families
of small-scale farmers in the three states of Kordofan and in Sennar state,
has been approved. This will contribute to mitigating the negative impacts of COVID-19 on small-scale producers.

The New Urban Agenda and SDG 11 promote inclusive urban development, but limited empirical
knowledge exists on how such global rhetoric plays out on the ground. This paper contributes

LAND-at-scale is a land governance support program for developing countries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, which was launched in 2019. The aim of the program is to directly strengthen essential land governance components for men, women and youth that have the potential to contribute to structural, just, sustainable and inclusive change at scale in lower- and middle-income countries/regions/landscapes. The program is designed to scale successful land governance initiatives and to generate and disseminate lessons learned to facilitate further scaling.

The Maghreb's oases systems provide a major contribution to the region's food security, economy and natural resources. Despite this potential, oasis ecosystems are threatened by a range of complex factors related to the expansion of agricultural land and increasing scarcity of water resources. The project, implemented by FAO in Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania from May 2016 to December 2019, brought together key stakeholders to address the lack of available information on the status of oases and to advocate on factual bases shared by all stakeholders and verifiable in the field.

Natural rangelands occupy about 5.5 million hectares of Tunisia’s landmass, and 38% of this area is in Tataouine governorate. Although efforts towards natural restoration are increasing rapidly as a result of restoration projects, the area of degraded rangelands has continued to expand and the severity of desertification has continued to intensify. Any damage caused by disturbances, such as grazing and recurrent drought, may be masked by a return of favorable rainfall conditions.
