    These Regulations consolidate with amendments the provisions of the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 and subsequent amending Regulations. Those Regulations, as well as these Regulations, are concerned with the assessment of the effects of certain public and private developments on the environment.

    These Regulations provide for the protection of trees. The Department of the Environment may make tree preservation orders. The Regulations prescribe the form of tree preservation orders in the Schedule and the procedure for their making, modification, confirmation and revocation. As a rule, the consent of the Department is required before any tree protected by the order may be cut down, topped, lopped, uprooted, damaged or destroyed. The Regulations also make special provision in relation to trees in conservation areas.

    These Regulations amend the Conservation (Natural Habitats, c.) Regulations 1994 in relation to Great Britain. They make provision for the adaptation of the planning regime introduced under the Planning Act 2008 for nationally significant infrastructure projects, for the protection of any site protected under Council Directive 92/43/EEC. They require development consent granted before the date on which a site becomes a European site to be reviewed and in certain circumstances revoked where the integrity of the site would be adversely affected.

    This Order, which extends to the United Kingdom, brings into force certain provisions of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 and contains transitional provisions relating to sections 205 and 206 of the Act.The Act further, among other things, a new system of marine planning and a new system of marine licensing and provides, across most of UK waters, for the designation of new Marine Conservation Zones.

    These Regulations make provision in Northern Ireland for the administration and enforcement of compliance of farmers with a range of laws and standards regarding "good agricultural and environmental condition". The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as the competent national authority, shall be responsible for providing farmers with a list of the statutory management requirements and standards of good agricultural and environmental condition on their land.

    This Order amends, in relation to England, the Town and Country Planning (General Development Procedure) Order 1995. The Order: modifies the consultation requirements in respect of applications under section 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to vary conditions attached to a previous permission; and amends the procedure for planning applications which are made for specified planning permissions.

    These Regulations create a single valuation tribunal for Wales, which replaces four tribunals and the valuation tribunal service for Wales. The tribunal will deal with appeals made under the statutory provisions as defined in regulation 3.

    The Regulations require the Department of the Environment to use its new powers under the Regulations and its existing powers under the Water Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 to prevent the direct or indirect discharge of list I substances to groundwater and to control pollution resulting from the direct or indirect discharge of list II substances (regs. 4 to 14).

    These Regulations provide that: the application to be completed by a crofting community body to buy land, eligible sporting interests or the interest of the tenant in tenanted land shall be in the form specified in Schedule 1 to these Regulations; and the notice which must be used by the Scottish Ministers when they notify their decision on an application to buy land, eligible sporting interests or the interest of the tenant in tenanted land shall be in the form prescribed in Schedule 2 to these Regulations.
