    Frequently, agriculture intensification by means of high-input technologies and agroecosystem simplification led to unsustainable farming systems. Increasing spatial-temporal diversity in agroecosystems has been shown as a promising alternative for restoring degraded land. A methodological approach is discussed here, based on preliminary results of experiences in a region of strong biophysical gradients. The CENTURY model is validated under local conditions and used as monitoring tool.

    This article describes the indicators of the base of cadastral value and their main influencing factors. The base of cadastral value for residential building is summarised and analysed in Latvia municipalities and its territorial units in 2015. The analysis results showed areas with the highest and lowest base of cadastral value for residential building in municipalities of Latvia. Also grouping and analysis of municipalities by the maximum and minimum base of cadastral value for residential building land in rural areas were carried out.

    The contemporary rural residential area system formed under specific circumstances characteristic to a particular region and under historic, economic, politic and social details of residential area development. This article studies the influence of natural factors to the formation of rural residential area system, discusses the problem of residential area vanishing and the factors that influence the development of current residential areas.

    Urban construction is a continuous process. Plans and concepts get changed, but the idea of homogeneous development is crucial, it should go together with the surrounding processes. The Development Strategy of Kuldiga is: “… to conserve its unique cultural heritage – the complex of old town and nature...”, as it is put in the Development Programme of Kuldiga [1]. The task of the development planning is to create a homogeneous environment in the old town of Kuldiga by providing economical use of resources, respect for local traditions and good use of land.
