A new Model Land Use Bill is proposed to address the lapses identified in the Nigerian Land Use Act (LUA, 1978), such as poor administrative system for lands, ownership, and the absence of community participation. This policy brief promotes a new land management structure for ease of business, to improve social and environmental protection, and to reduce land-grabbing by dispossession. The impact of land grabbing is one of many problems of social and environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and livelihoods impacted by deforestation.

Land use involves a diverse range of perspectives and cannot be resolved by any single stakeholder working alone. A process like Transformative Scenario Planning (TSP) can bring together conflicting opinions and help people to start thinking differently. This report summarises the main steps, processes and ideas involved in the TSP workshops in Botswana. It articulates the process of TSP, how it unfolds in a group setting and how it can be used to draw out questions and concerns.

The reviews analyse trends and policy developments and make an overall assessment of the political, economic and social framework of the housing sector. This work was initiated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Housing and Land Management in the early 1990s in response to requests from UNECE member States.

• entail a transfer ofrights to use, control or own land through sale, lease or concession;
• have an intended size of 200 hectares (ha) or larger;
• have been concluded since the year 2000;
• are affected by a change of use (often from extensive or ecosystem service provision to commercial use);
• include deals for agricultural and forestry purposes. Mining operations are excluded.

Personal possession of land is considered to be a symbol of social prestige and security. Land plays a very important role in both income generation and social life in various ways. In Kenya, the total land area of the country is 58 million hectares (ha), of which only around 10% is classified as arable land. As of January 2020, the Land Matrix had recorded a total of 14 concluded deals in the country, totalling 269 411 ha, or just 0.46% of the total land area. Although this is a relatively small land footprint, these deals may still have significant implications for local communities and indigenous people. It is important to note that in this country profile, regional filters were used to sort and extract the data on the Land Matrix online platform.
