    This report describes the project of strengthening the ability of the governments of the Nile Basin states to take informed decisions with regard to water resources policy and management in the Nile Basin. This objective to be achieved through the development of information products that integrate technical water resources and water use data with other relevant data, including in particular demographic, socio-economic and environmental data.

    Malta’s partnership with FAO dates back to 1964, the year the country joined the Organization. Cooperation through emergency interventions in the 1970s enabled Malta’s successful eradication of African swine fever. Water management has been another major area of FAO assistance – and one of strategic importance – in the country, with action focusing on sustainable management of Malta’s water resources and development of a national water policy.

    Israel became an FAO member in 1949, and has provided highly valuable expertise to FAO and its member countries. In addition to offering technical assistance to FAO projects on capacity development for pest and pesticide management, Israel’s agency for International Development regularly holds technical training sessions in many areas of agriculture and development. These are circulated to FAO stakeholders in developing countries, several of whom have participated in and benefited from the training.

    In cooperation with the Government of Ethiopia, the Subregional Office of Eastern Africa (SFE) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) introduced a parasitic wasp to control a fast-spreading aphid pest infestation threatening to destroy cypress tree plantations in parts of the Amhara and Tigray Regional States in the north of Ethiopia.
