We develop a new partial equilibrium, four-region world trade model for the soybean complex comprising soybeans, soybean oil, and soybean meal. In the model, some consumers view genetically modified Roundup Ready (RR) soybeans and products as weakly inferior to conventional ones; the RR seed is patented and sold worldwide by a U.S. firm; and producers employ a costly segregation technology to separate conventional and biotech products in the supply chain.

This paper includes, as an annex, Law No. 7693, "On Urban Planning," from the People's Assembly of the Republic of Albania. Conceptually, this law has five major parts: (1) planning generally, (2) getting construction permission, (3) special provisions for tourist zones, (4) special provisions for military zones and zones with singular (that is, archaeological, historical, or cultural) value, and (5) penalties for violations. These parts are described and discussed.

The use of mathematical models to describe the interactions of variables is useful in modern management. In this paper, a 'mixed' model combining the knapsack problem, a household model and a form of spatial equilibrium model into a modelling framework is developed. The impacts of changes in off-farm wage rates, transaction costs in the rental market, the output prices of paddy crops, and land transactions were examined in the model.

Land markets have received a considerable amount of attention in economic literature. Since the treatment of the topic covers various approaches, areas, and questions, it seems desirable to attempt an overview of the results. This paper devises a way in which to present a complete picture of the land market by drawing together the various contributions. The first step is to establish a method by which a market in its entirety can be defined. It is suggested that the application of Oliver Williamson's "Four levels of social analysis" is an appropriate approach to be used in this endeavour.

The Theory of the Second Best implies that any country with less-than-ideal resources can lose from international trade. Recently it has been suggested this means the South (poor countries) are better off suppressing trade with the North, especially trade in natural resource products, since the North has better developed rights to protect its natural resources. Here we show that the suppression of such trade may also impede the development of property rights in the South, but that even taking this into account, trade liberalization need not improve Southern welfare.

Many land use conflicts are characterized by negative impacts whose severity declines with distance. This paper demonstrates how these "edge effects externalities" may contribute to sub-optimal patterns and scale of land use, therefore providing a strengthened rationale for coordinated land use planning.

Seasonal climate forecasting systems have made substantial gains in recent years. Since climate forecasting technologies are quite new, it is difficult to value them by studying the impacts of existing systems. In pursuing the research necessary to develop and refine these technologies it is worthwhile to know if they have any benefit before their implementation. In this manuscript I determine that there is robust pre-implementation evidence that new vegetation index forecasting technologies could provide non-zero benefits in ranchette markets in Arizona.

This paper compares and contrasts patterns of land tenure, property boundaries, and dispute resolution regarding property using examples from two diverse social and economic regions: Bolivia and Norway. The goal of the paper is essentially a comparative one. By placing the examples of Bolivia and Norway side by side, the authors hope to shed light on common strategies while recognizing the diversity to be found in the ways that people relate to land. It is hoped that readers will be able to compare the material here with examples from other regions.

This report contains the results from an exploratory study amongst landowners which reviewed their support strategies for the national landscape areas. To this end, 36 interviews were conducted with landowners (farmers, land managers, recreational entrepreneurs, and country estate owners) in eight national landscape areas (the Achterhoek, Graafschap, Groene Woud, Hoeksche Waard, Noord-Hollands Midden, Noordelijke Wouden, IJsseldelta, and Zuidwest-Zeeland).
