Le déficit alimentaire croissant et la lourde charge des importations nécessaires pour le combler sont pour les pays africains une source de graves préoccupations. Or le sol de ces pays est très fertile et le climat très favorable. Il est donc possible de réduire le déficit alimentaire. Voir de le transformer en un excédent à condition d’adopter des pratiques agricoles scientifiques.
