How do the economic, social and environmental functions of land resources relate to food sovereignty and well being?
How is territory an expression of identity and nation?
In Ecuador, how is the demand for access to land linked with development strategies and democratic processes, specifically in the context of the new Constitution and proposed land laws in the Plan of Good Living?
These are some of the items that were discussed at the Third Regional Conference of the International Land Coalition (ILC) entitled "Land governance for society building," an event that was held on 12 October at the Hotel Quito in Ecuador with the support of FEPP Protierras.
The Regional Conference was a forum for the exchange of experiences between ILC members and partners and guests invited from the national and regional level. It constituted a platform for debate on the importance of linkages between land, territories and governance.
During the conference, a National Roundtable was held to discuss the status of rights to land and territories in Ecuador in order to contribute to the debate on land policies and programs under discussion.
A Regional Roundtable was also held to present and discuss the commercial pressures on the land under way in various countries in Latin America.
