The Food and Agriculture Organization define land tenure as  the relationship, whether legally or customarily defined, among people, as individuals or groups, with respect to land.

The purpose of this report was to evaluate the gender  inequality that currently exists in land ownership in Zambia. Zambia currently has two land tenure systems, both of which are relic of the colonial era. In both of these systems, land ownership is along patriarchal lines, with women having little land security.
