A comunidade de Pilões tem origem a partir de uma ocupação realizada por 25 famílias numa propriedade de 780,4625 hectares, situada na região de Jacobina, noroeste da Bahia, extremo Norte da Chapada Diamantina. a fazenda tiveram suas atividades encerradas em 1990, mas as famílias ocuparam em 2001 com o apoio do Movimento CETA.

A landscape once dominated by 4,500 large-scale commercial farmers is now populated by about 145,000 smallholder households, occupying 4.1 million hectares, and around 23,000 medium-scale farmers on 3.5 million hectares.

This study on farmers’ suicides is done by Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) through its local partner the Baitarani Initiative. This study was attempted to understand if farmers’ suicides were just a desperate reaction to events like droughts and crop loss or there were more fundamental roots.

Zambia remains committed to the socio-economic development planning of the country as reflected by the return to development planning in 2005. The Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) for the period 2017- 2021 is the successor to the Revised Sixth National Development Plan, 2013-2016 (R-SNDP) following its expiry in December 2016.
