The Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative is an initiative on the economic benefits of land and land based ecosystems. It aims to make economics of land degradation an integral part of policy strategies and decision making by increasing the political and public awareness of the costs and benefits of land and land-based ecosystems.

The journal focuses on: what land degradation is; what causes land degradation; the impacts of land degradation the scale of land degradation; the history current status or future trends of land degradation; avoidance mitigation and control of land degradation; remedial actions to rehabilitate or restore degraded land; sustainable land management.
