This double issue of Unasylva aims to tease out the complex interrelationship between forests, trees and disasters, and to examine the ways in which forests and trees can best be managed both to resist shocks and to protect from shocks. Forests and trees can act as natural buffers against disasters and shocks.

In the final document of the conference of the United Nations on sustainable development in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro (Rio+20 Conference), the international community thus agreed to strive for a “land degradation neutral world”.

The present Ordinance implements the Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources of 23 April 2009. In particular, the Law lays down provisions relating to building technology and building equipment, as well as to special environmental, health and energy requirements of buildings.

Object-based image analysis (OBIA) is a widely used method for knowledge-based interpretation of very high resolution imagery. It relies on expert knowledge to classify the desired classes from the imagery at hand. The definition of classes is subjective, usually project-specific and not shared with the community.

Poland was one of the 44 founding members of FAO, participating in the Hot Spring Conference in 1943 as well as in the FAO founding conference in Quebec City on 16 October 1945. FAO’s shared history of cooperation with the Government of Poland has focused on projects that improve the safety and efficiency of the Polish food system.
