One of the guiding mandates within the FAO Constitution is the following: “The Organization shall promote and, where appropriate, shall recommend national and international action with respect to: … the conservation of natural resources and the adoption of improved methods of agricultural production ...”.

The State of the World's Forests reports every two years on the status of forests, recent major policy and institutional developments and key issues concerning the forest sector. The purpose of the publication is to provide current, reliable and policy-relevant information to policy-makers, foresters and other natural resource managers, academics, forest industry and civil society.
The constitution was approved by 70.36% of voters in a referendum.
The First Schedule of the Forest Act is revoked and replaced. The new Schedule prescribes fees for timber permits, royalties for other forest products, annual licence fees for other forest products.
