Kenya : la filière thé tourne au ralenti en raison de la sécheresse | Land Portal

(Agence Ecofin) - Au Kenya, la sécheresse prolongée perturbe les activités au niveau de la filière thé.

En effet, rapporte Bloomberg, l'Association des planteurs de thé (KTGA) travaille désormais 3 jours sur 6 prévus normalement en raison de l’insuffisance du volume de feuille.

D’après Apollo Kiarii, directeur général de l’organisation, près de la moitié des travailleurs ont ainsi été mis en congé ou ont été déployés vers les tâches secondaires.

Cette situation a déjà conduit à une baisse de moitié de la production au niveau des usines de transformation de thé, indique Bloomberg.  

Selon les dernières prévisions, la récolte de thé de cette année devrait atteindre 416 000 tonnes contre 492 900 tonnes en 2018.  

Le Kenya a exporté environ 475 000 tonnes de thé pour des recettes de 1,4 milliard $, en 2018.
