Though both elected area representative PUP’s Francis Fonseca and UDP standard bearer Orson Elrington both claim to represent the people, the residents of the disputed 1.6 acres have told Love News that Fonseca is their attorney. While the parties are invested in Freetown, the people on the ground continue to live in homes that they don’t know if they will still be there when they return home.

The event, titled “Honduras: The Fight for Reparations,” is scheduled to last for 12 days.

A delegation of six Garifunas from Belize are scheduled to travel to the Honduran Caribbean coast on Sunday to learn about Garifuna struggles and victories for land repossession, reparations and other ancestral fights.

The Father Ring Parish Hall in Punta Gorda will be the venue for a lecture on the CCJ’s judgement in the Maya Leaders Alliance case that was brought against the Attorney General of Belize. The initiative is a collaboration between the National Garifuna Council and the Impact Justice Project. Sandra Miranda is the President of the National Garifuna Council.

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Dec. 7, 2015–The Maya Leaders Alliance (MLA) and Toledo Alcaldes Association (TAA) today received recognition in Paris, France, as the 2015 recipients of the prestigious Equator Prize in land rights, as part of the Climate Change Conference.

The award was received by MLA spokesperson, Cristina Coc, and MLA chair, Alfonso Cal.
