Kenya has a land size of 582,646 Square Kilometers, 97.8% comprising of land and 2.2% water surfaces. 20% of the land area is classified as medium to high potential land and 80% as Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL). Land has a central position in Kenya’s social, economic and political history. An estimated 75% of the country’s population depends on land for their livelihoods, making the ownership, management and control of the resource of great importance.

    Há alguns dias, centenas de pessoas caminham, em fila indiana, pela avenida nacional 7 para fugir da capital de Madagascar, Antananarivo, confinada devido ao coronavírus, um êxodo que surpreende inclusive a polícia neste país africano.
     
    Um deles é Richard Rakotoarisoa, que caminhava ao lado de muitas pessoas na RN7 com destino ao sul.

    The Kenya Climate Change Knowledge Portal (KCCKP) is a one stop repository of climate change information in Kenya. This is an initiative of the Climate Change Directorate (CCD), the lead agency of the government on national climate change plans and actions. The Climate Change Directorate, will among other duties and functions, serve as the national knowledge and information management centre for collating, verifying, refining, and disseminating knowledge and information on climate change.

    An important outcome of the 1972 UN Summit on Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, was the agreement between Kenya and Sweden to cooperate on soil conservation. As a result, the Kenya National Soil and Water Conservation Programme started in 1974 under the Ministry of Agriculture, with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency(Sida). In 1982, Sida established the Regional Soil Conservation Unit (RSCU) to disseminate soil and water conservation experiences in Kenya to other Countries in the region.

    CETRAD is a Bilateral Institution between the Government of Kenya (through The Ministry of Water and Irrigation) and the Government of Swiss Confederation, through the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Berne. CETRAD was established in July 2002 as a follow up of the then Laikipia Research Programme (1976 - 1997), and therefore builds on the long term preinvestment research facility.
