   This toolkit provides a framework for main-streaming gender in rural development activities.It addresses the lack of conceptual and practical tools in the area of sustainable land management. Its modular design allows for individual approaches and targets development staff at the project and programme levels, with the aim of helping them to find practical ways of dealing with gender issues in rural development activities.

   Land use changes in the Veselovianka river catchment in the Horná Orava region

   The research of the landscape structure and its changes was carried out in a part of the Horná Orava region. Landscape structure was studied and compared in 2 periods (1958 and 2001). Two types of changes were identified: anthropogenic and succession. Succession processes were spontaneous, anthropogenic-conditioned or successive, which were linked with land use changes, reduction of traditional management of non-forest vegetation (mowing, grazing) and consequent climax succession.

Users' records and annotated experiences with the contents of the guidelines, comments on their usefulness and applicability and suggestions for improvements will be welcome to enable a future re-issue to be upgraded in the light of experience.

   The Land Mobilization Project assists the Government's Land Mobilization Program which aims to contribute to economic growth through more productive use of land resources, while promoting equity, employment, participation and social stability. The project supports all six components of the program with techncial assistance, additional contract and local staff, equipment, and buildings.
