Knowledge management and learning are at the heart of the LAND-at-scale program. RVO, LANDac and the International Land Coalition (ILC) will collaborate to implement the knowledge management (KM) component of the program.

Through LAND-at-scale's country-projects, the aim is to achieve just, inclusive and sustainable land governance at scale and in a sustainable way. With an integrated KM-strategy, LAND-at-scale aims to achieve maximum impact of each project, as well as contribute to gaining a deeper understanding of the conditions required to create structural change.

Somalia has over 2.9 million Internally Displaced People (IDPs) following decades of civil war and violent conflict. In addition, a significant increase of droughts and floods due to climate change have forced people away from their rural homes. Most IDPs have relocated in Somalia’s cities which has resulted in rapid urbanization, unplanned city development, and a speculation in land markets. This situation has spurred continuous displacements and forced evictions of IDPs, preventing them from building a sustainable livelihood.

Contribute to the sustainable development and management in the Gambella and Rift valley through integrated and holistic land use planning including mitigation of conflicts over natural resources and demarcation of protected areas

The goal is that sustainable land management capacities are improved.

This programme funded by the European Union (EU) aims at enhancing the joint implementation of the VGGT (Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land , Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security) and the F&G (Framework and Guidelines of the Land Policy Initiative (LPI)) at Pan African level and at supporting and consolidating the implementation of the EU Land governance in 10 African countries (Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan*, Angola, Malawi, Eswatini).

The institutional capacities of IGAD Secretariat will be supported to formulate a regional land governance policy framework in an inclusive and participatory bottom-up process. This task will be facilitated by the Land Policy Initiative that is the mandated body by the African Union to implement the Declaration on Land. The Land Policy Initiative is contract partner and will technically assist IGAD.

The project is to increase inclusive and gender-equitable secure access and sustainable use/management of land and other natural resources in order to facilitate productive investments as well as social and economic development. In-depth assessments carried out on territorial rights and conflict dynamics will help to provide a clear understanding of the context and facilitate the formulation of effective strategies towards sustainable natural resource management (access and use).
