The main objective of the LAND-at-scale program is to directly strengthen essential land governance components for men, women and youth that have the potential to contribute to structural, just, sustainable and inclusive change at scale. An ambitious objective, that cannot be achieved in isolation. Alignment is, therefore, a key factor in all LAND-at-scale activities - be it at project level for our country interventions or through our collaborative approach to knowledge management.

Knowledge management and learning are at the heart of the LAND-at-scale program. On June 29^th at a pre-event of the LANDac conference, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), LANDac and the International Land Coalition (ILC) officially announced their collaboration to implement the knowledge management (KM) component of the program.

This session zoomed in on the local situation and challenges faced by grassroots communities and women in some low-Income countries. It provided an overview of support provided by Civil Society organizations (and governments) facilitating communities, women in particular, to step up the efforts to strengthen their land rights and to generate resilience in face of the climate and COVID-19 challenges they are facing.

Les territoires des peuples autochtones couvrent 24% de la surface terrestre du globe, mais ils contiennent 80% de la biodiversité mondiale. Avec leurs liens profonds avec la terre et leur dépendance envers ses ressources, les peuples autochtones protègent et conservent les habitats naturels. Cette histoire raconte pourquoi cette reconnaissance est si importante.

 
Le 4 mai dernier, RRI a organisé un stage régional consacré à la justice de genre pour ses partenaires et collaborateurs africains. Les objectifs de ce stage étaient de trois ordres : 1) accroître le degré de sensibilisation concernant l’état des droits fonciers collectifs des femmes dans la région ; 2) échanger au sujet des difficultés et des bonnes pratiques ; et 3) recommander les étapes à suivre pour la mise en œuvre d’une stratégie en matière de justice de genre à l’échelle du continent.

Près de la moitié de la population mondiale vit dans les zones rurales des pays à revenu faible ou intermédiaire. La sécurité foncière – à savoir le droit d’accéder aux terres et aux ressources naturelles, comme les forêts, les zones de pâturage communal, les zones de pêche et d’autres ressources collectives, et de les exploiter – joue donc un rôle fondamental dans le développement durable.

Purnima Kora is an ambitious farmer. She owns two small parcels of land that she purchased with her husband’s support and years of savings she earned from farming PepsiCo potatoes and rice, as well as by leveraging micro loans through a women’s self-help group. She also leases another half-acre plot to farm potatoes.

Instruments like the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) are "voluntary", i.e., legally non-binding. These instruments are intended to have a direct influence on the governance of the tenure practice of states by providing an internationally recognized set of principles, and by simultaneously encouraging good practices.
